The Holiest of All - Lesson 38 - Confident of a Great Reward - Hebrews 10:32-35. "If between here and heaven you had nothing to bear but the cruelty of men, and the unkindness of the enemies of Christ, you should bear it right manfully, and even joyfully, because you can say, "I know in myself that I have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Even here I have a life which the world did not give me, and cannot take from me; therefore I hold to it still, and I comfort myself with this sweet thought, that it is mine, the gift of God to me." - Spurgeon

The Gospel of God - Message 7 - The Righteous Live by Faith - Romans 1:17. "Salvation by His grace working through man's faith was always God's plan. Abraham, the father of the faithful, believed, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness (Rom. 4:3), just as every person's genuine faith, before and after Abraham, has been reckoned to him as righteousness." – J. It is right of us to hate it, to sorrow over it, but it is not right for us to get fearing and trembling as to the punishment of that sin. Why do we? I will tell you. It is because we forget the cross." - Spurgeon

"What a blessed doctrine this is—that the one offering of Christ has done what the tens of thousands of offerings under the old law never could accomplish!
The Gospel of God - Message 2 - Promised through the Prophets - Romans 1:2-4. The gospel of God was promised through the prophets in Holy Scripture. Their preaching and proclaiming the promises serve as part of the very foundation of the church – the Word of God, Jesus Himself being the Chief Cornerstone. The Old Testament contains 332 Messianic prophesies, 27 of which were fulfilled in 1 day, the day Jesus was crucified.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 31 - A Body Prepared - Hebrews 10:1-7. The requirement of the law was love to God and love to men. This has always been God's great requirement. He seeks spiritual worship, obedient thought, holy living, grateful praise, devout prayer—these are the requirements of the Creator and Benefactor of men.
The Holiest of All - Lesson 30 - Sin Put Away (Part 2) - Hebrews 9:27-28. "A man dies once, and after that everything is fixed and settled, and he answers for his doings at the judgment. One life, one death— then everything is weighed, and the result declared: 'after this the judgment.' So Christ comes, and dies once; and after this, for him also the result of what he has done, namely, the salvation of those who look for him." - Spurgeon

War in Heaven - Message 4 - Suffering Accomplished - 1 Peter 5:8-9. 1 Peter 5 concludes Peter's epistle to the elect, "those who reside as exiles, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia." In this final section he gives instructions to the pastors as to how to shepherd the flock where they have been called to serve. A theme of this letter has been suffering, and pastors are to shepherd the people of God through their suffering, teaching them how to live in Christ and how to die in Christ!

He did not die to make men salvable—He died to save them." – Spurgeon

As Satan floods the church with lies and accusations, raging against the saints, he fights in vain! The key to our victory (overcoming) is found in persistent, persevering obedience to the Lord Jesus.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 28 - The Blood of the Covenant - Hebrews 9:15-22. If I have any grace or any covenant blessing it did not come to me because I was heir to it by nature, or because I had purchased it, or because of any right intrinsic in myself: but because Jesus, when he died, had a right to make his will as he pleased, and he did so make it that he would give himself and all that he had to such a poor, needy, empty, lost, and guilty sinner as I am. Not because of any good in us do these blessings come to us, but all of our Lord's good will who made the testament of love and sealed it with his heart's blood." – Spurgeon

War in Heaven - Message 2 - The Accuser of the Brethren - Revelation 12:7-12. Here we witness the War of the Worlds! As Jesus was dying on the cross at Calvary, a cosmic battle was being fought in the heavens. When Jesus was lifted up, the dragon was cast down. Heaven rejoiced, but woe to those on the earth. Satan now deceives the whole world and accuses the church. How do we stand against the wiles of the devil?

The Holiest of All - Lesson 27 - Eternal Redemption - Hebrews 9:11-14. I love that expression 'eternal redemption' – a redemption that really does redeem, and redeems forever and ever. If you are redeemed by it, you cannot be lost. If this redemption is yours, it is not for a time, or for a season, but it is 'eternal redemption.' Oh, how you ought to rejoice in the one entrance within the veil by our great High Priest who has obtained eternal redemption for us!" – Spurgeon

The Small Decisions Matter

It is a time of war, and of defeat. Babylon invaded and Judah lost. From the book of Jeremiah, God judged Judah for their consistent rebellion with a promised 70-year exile in Babylon. Many Hebrew men, women and children died from war, starvation and disease. Only a remnant survived, and they were taken captive to Babylon as slaves. The original audience of Daniel were the Jews in Babylonian exile, enduring cultural assimilation and persecution in a thoroughly pagan land. Psalm 137 is a lament that refers to the Babylonian exile. This lament asks a relevant question that applies to Christians today. "How shall we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land?" The book of Daniel, chapters 1-6 is a historical record with several examples of this type of situation to answer the question. The first chapter of Daniel starts us on this journey of understanding the larger question with another question, do the small decisions matter?

The Holiest of All - Lesson 26 - A Time of Reformation - Hebrews 9:6-10. "There could be no approach to God under the old dispensation without the shedding of blood, and there is no access to the Lord now without the precious blood of Christ. Inasmuch as the new covenant was not the type, but the substance, a more precious sacrifice was needed, and nobler blood than any which is found in the veins of bulls or of goats. Jesus, the Son of God must die, or the covenant would be unsealed, the testament without force." - Spurgeon

The Potter and the Clay - Message 59 - Devastation and Destruction - Lamentations 4. The fourth lament focuses on the suffering of the people through severe famine and exposes the sins of the kings, priests, and prophets in Judah. Their reliance on godless nations instead of the True and Living God is ultimately what brought God's wrath on the nation.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 24 - A Faultless Covenant - Hebrews 8:7-13. "There is no 'if' in the covenant of grace. It runs thus: 'I will,' and 'You shall.' Its essence lies in the supreme word, 'I will.' Therefore, because the conditions of the covenant of grace have been fulfilled it is in no danger of retraction, and Christ Jesus has become the surety of a better covenant." – Spurgeon

The Potter and the Clay - Message 57 - God's Righteous Anger - Lamentations 2. Whatever God does is right(eous). His judgments are righteous and true. Yet in His judgments (justice) we find grace! As we see Jeremiah's grief because of what the Lord has done to Jerusalem and the people of Judah, we learn that in order to properly grieve, we must remember what it is that we have lost.

The Potter and the Clay - Message 54 - Babylon Judged - Jeremiah 51. Chapters 50-51 go into great detail about the destruction of Babylon as an act of vengeance from the Lord against them. The Medes are advancing and will conquer, but the descriptions of destruction do not match the historical evidence of the fall of Babylon. Could there be a future judgment that Jeremiah is seeing?

Jeremiah chapters 50-51 go into great detail about the destruction of Babylon as an act of vengeance from the Lord against them. They had been used as a tool for judgment, but would now be judged themselves in much the same way as they had acted against the nations.

In the judgment of the nations, the last few chapters of Jeremiah's prophecy show us the destruction coming to Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Elam, the nomadic Arab tribes, and finally Babylon. They have all attacked God's people, yet even in their midst, some will be redeemed and restored.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 17 - God's Unchangeable Purpose - Hebrews 6:13-20. The worst possible trial to a believer is to have it suggested to him that the gospel is not true, that pardon through the precious blood is a fiction, and that God is not reconciled through the atoning sacrifice. If we are absolutely certain as to the truth of God's gospel and our way of salvation thereby, then all other things are of small concern to us. Therefore has the Lord fixed on a sure basis of promise and oath this cornerstone of our comfort, and set His promise in such a light that it becomes blasphemy to doubt it." – Spurgeon

The Holiest of All - Lesson 16 - Full Assurance - Hebrews 6:9-12. The warning is stern, almost harsh. But the concern is real. They should be teachers, feeding on solid food, but due to the dullness of hearing – the unwillingness to hear, do, and be what they ought – they are in danger of having made a false profession. How can the reader find full assurance of salvation?

The Holiest of All - Lesson 15 - Falling Away - Hebrews 6:1-8. Christ will not lose one of those given to Him by His Father. His gifts and calling are irrevocable. His sacrifice is so sufficient, so complete, so effective, that if you could undo it, you could never be saved again unless you crucified Christ again.

The Potter and the Clay - Message 51 - Against Moab - Jeremiah 48. The judgment of the nation of Moab was prophesied by Balaam, Isaiah, Amos, Zephaniah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah. Jeremiah chapter 48 shares some specific language with Isaiah 15-16. God is emphasizing to them that though they were once a great and proud people, the judgment that they had been warned about for hundreds of years was now at the doorstep. But there is hope for the future.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 14 - Milk and Meat - Hebrews 5:11-14. "It is true of many Christians that they learn very little to any purpose, and always need to be going over the ABC's of the gospel. They never get into the classics, the deep things of God' they are afraid of the doctrine of election, and the doctrine of the eternal covenant, and the doctrine of the sovereignty of God, for these truths are meant for men of full age, and these poor, puny babes have not cut their teeth yet. They want tome softer and more childlike food. Well, it is a mercy that they are children of God; it would be better, however, for them to grow so as to become teachers of others." – Spurgeon

He was of a teachable spirit, and the Lord Himself instructed Him. The lesson is practical – we learn to obey. We may not all suffer alike; we may not all need the same kind of suffering; but I question whether any of us can truly learn obedience except by the things that we suffer." - CH Spurgeon

He understands both our ignorance and our errors and gently grows us in the knowledge of the truth and in grace.

The Potter and the Clay - Message 48 - God's Response to a Pity Party - Jeremiah 45. In 605 BC, before the fall of Jerusalem, Baruch becomes disillusioned and begins to complain about his circumstances. The Lord responds and reminds us all, that in light of His coming judgment upon the world, we should not pursue selfish ambitions or expect special treatment. We must learn to treasure what God treasures.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 11 - Tempted, Yet Without Sin - Hebrews 4:14-16. Through the power of His Word and the convicting and enabling work of the Spirit we are able to approach the Throne of Grace with "unstaggering confidence."

The Potter and the Clay - Message 46 - It's Your Choice - Jeremiah 42:1-22. The people, confused and afraid, ask Jeremiah to pray to his God on their behalf and bring them a word from God as to what they should do. He does, with a promise of blessing for obedience and a warning that their greatest fears will come true if they do not listen. They said they would listen and do whatever Jeremiah said. They lied.

The Potter and the Clay - Message 45 - Who Can Yo Trust? - Jeremiah 40-41. Three months after Jerusalem's wall is breached, events transpire to destabilize the area and disrupt the government that the Babylonians have left in charge. Assassination, infighting, mass killings, and chaos leave a small remnant ready to flee to Egypt. It seems no one knows who to trust, but the truth is that they refuse to trust the only One they should.

The Potter and the Clay - Message 44 - Jeremiah Delivered - Jeremiah 39:1-18. The Fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians leads to the punishment of King Zedekiah but the release of Jeremiah and Ebed-Melech. This chapter offers a look at how God's people are enabled to deal with disastrous times by resting by faith in God's providence. We also see clearly that Scripture is sufficient for us in times of distress and disaster! A timely message.

The Potter and the Clay - Message 43 - Jeremiah Imprisoned Again - Jeremiah 37-38. These are the events that lead up to the fall of Jerusalem and are happening 18 years after what was recorded in chapter 36. Jeremiah is imprisoned, beaten, and almost killed when he is thrown into a pit. An unnamed servant of the king saves the prophet. As he continues to give God's Word to Zedekiah, the king proves himself to be unstable, indecisive, and resistant to the Words from Yahweh.

Moses was a type of Christ and a faithful leader among God's people (Heb. 11), but his glory cannot be compared to the glory of Christ. One was a servant, the other a Son. Our text exhorts us to "Consider Jesus!"

The Potter and the Clay - Message 42 - Jeremiah 36:1-32. God's Words to Jeremiah the prophet are read to the people, then the officials, and then the King of Judah. The people are apathetic to the Word, the officials are alarmed and afraid, and the King is angry and adamant – he burns the scroll in the fire. The consequences include judgment, destruction, and the end of Jehoiakim's line on the throne. We conclude by examining 4 ways that we might cut up and burn God's Word in our daily lives.

The Holiest of All - Lesson 6 - Freed from Fear of Death - Hebrews 2:11-18. "The devil is still alive, but his power in this world has received a death blow. Jesus Christ has trodden on the old serpent's head, and, to the Christian, in the matter of death, the devil is completely destroyed, for he that believes in Christ shall never die. Death seemed to be all dark and evil, like Satan himself, something into which he had put his most venomous sting. But now, to believers in Jesus, death is a messenger from our Father in heaven calling us home to Him – not a dark angel, striking in terror to our hearts, but one who is exceeding bright and fair, coming to bid us fly away to realms of light and love." – Spurgeon,

The Potter and the Clay - Message 40 - Released - Jeremiah 34:1-22. Jeremiah chapters 34 through 39 give us the 5th part of this book of prophecy. The focus in this section is the rejection of the Word of God by the king, priests, and people. A scroll containing God's Word to the king is cut up and burned in the fire and Jeremiah is thrown into a pit. The Lord assures Jeremiah that He will save and deliver him, and that Zedekiah and the city will be taken by Nebuchadnezzar's forces.

"Angels were but creatures ; they might show signs of heavenly power, and speak words of heavenly truth; as creatures, they could not bring down the life of God itself, nor truly reach into the life of man. Verse 3 tells us that Jesus is "the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." Looking at this phrase by phrase, we get a glimpse of the true glory and majesty of Jesus! Do we know THIS Jesus?

The Holiest of All - Lesson 1 - God's Final Word - Hebrews 1:1-2. God has Spoken! As the eternal, living Word, Jesus is greater than the prophets and a more certain Word than visions and dreams. The words of the prophets are the words of God, mediated through men by the Holy Spirit, and are therefore inspired and infallible. These words pointed to and prepared the way for the coming of Christ, God's final Word.

Praying for Christ's Coming

Lord, Teach Us to Pray - Lesson 22 - Praying for Christ's Coming - Rev. 22:17. We have learned from our study that we are to pray and ask for the things that God has promised us. His promises reveal His will and give us direction for our desires. Throughout Scripture we are promised that Jesus will come again, and in the closing chapter of the Bible, John expresses the deep desire of the Holy Spirit (Rev. 19:10) and the church (bride, Rev. 19:7) for Christ's coming. If we are eagerly awaiting His return, we should be praying for it with expectation!

He Has Risen

The Road to Redemption - Message 3 - He Has Risen - Matthew 28:1-15. This we declare, just as Jesus came and lived a sinless life, just as He died on the cross as our substitute, just as His body was laid in a borrowed tomb, so too is it true that He was raised from the dead. This is our hope. We know by this that sin and death have been defeated, our faith is not in vain, we have the hope of eternal life, and we know that Jesus meant what He said when He declared from the cross, "It is finished." The price for redemption has been paid in full and we have been reconciled to God through His death and resurrection. Jesus is alive. He is our Hope. He is coming back. Do you believe this?

The Real Lord's Prayer - Pt 5

Lord, Teach Us to Pray - Lesson 21 - The Real Lord's Prayer - Pt 5 - John 17:20-26. Here Jesus prays for those who will be brought into the family of God through the ministry and work of the Apostles. He prays for unity and for love. Looking at the church today, has Jesus' prayer for unity among believers NOT been answered? To answer that question, we need to understand what unity is, what unity is not, and what the true basis of unity is within the church.
